Monteith’s Radler®

Monteith’s Radler® is a refreshing, fruity, lemon and lime-flavoured lager inspired by a drink first served up in Bavaria in the 1920’s by Franz Xaver Kugler, the owner of an Austrian Gasthaus. In search of an invigorating brew, he developed an easy drinking lager bier with a citrus twist — flavoured with lemon and lime – which was the perfect treat for the many cyclists (“radler” in German) and mountain hikers who visited his alpine guesthouse.

Radler® recreates the experience; it’s a lager beer, brewed to full strength at 5% alcohol by volume, with distinctive hoppy notes. The beer is brewed with a small amount of natural lemon juice, giving it its refreshing zesty citrus finish.

Monteith’s Radler® has a level of residual sweetness to complement the added lemon juice. This combination provides balance and a degree of complexity to the flavour mix. Radler® is only lightly hopped to ensure the bitterness character does not dominate the flavour.

After a hard day’s work (or a hike on the mountains), the refreshing citrus taste of Radler® will go well with fresh crayfish or a nice light spring salad. Or you could match it the German way, with spicy sausages, cheeses and fresh bread.

Monteith’s Radler® has an original gravity (OG) of 1049, alcohol content of 5% and a final gravity of 1010+. Radler® is only lightly bittered but this, along with the citrus tang, provides the beer with a finish that is clean, crisp, slightly drying yet totally refreshing.

Crushed Pear Cider

It’s been nearly a year since Monteith’s Crushed Apple Cider arrived on the market, refreshing Kiwi palates and invigorating a category that had been stagnant for many years.

But far from simply celebrating their success, or resting on their laurels, the Monteith’s brewers have been tinkering with recipes and working hard to perfect their next cider variant and cater for a growing demand for the historic drop which dates back to medieval times.

Their hard-work has paid off and Monteith’s Crushed Pear Cider is set to launch on 1st September 2010 in four-packs only, just in time for the summer months.

Monteith's Original

Monteith’s Original Ale delivers a full, round and complete beer flavour. It’s the hops that dominate aroma and taste. However, on closer inspection, there’s a subtle blackberry aroma which originates from the female flowers of the Pacific Gem Hops.

Crushed Apple Cider

Thanks to a combination of gravity and the great team here at Monteith’s Brewery in Greymouth, Cider fans have a reason to rejoice in a new refreshing drink for summer.

Monteith’s new Crushed Apple Cider is crafted from sun-ripened Nelson fruit that gravitate from the province’s many thousands of apple trees before journeying to our Monteith’s master brewers here in Greymouth who spend three months carefully nurturing the freshly crushed apple juice.
